Bad Tasting Water

Why Some Water Tastes Bad:

If you are living with bad-tasting water, whether it is a strong chlorine taste or sulphur-like taste, you know the nuisance this causes for you, your family, and guests. In addition to impacting your drinking water, bad-tasting water also impacts your cooking, bathing, and brushing your teeth. We put together the following water taste guide to give you a better understanding about what may be causing these off-putting tastes and what you can do to finally get great tasting water in your home.

-Sulphur Taste: Hydrogen sulphide gas (H2S) can give water a “rotten egg” taste or odour.

-Chlorine Taste: The chlorine added to disinfect the water can react with some plastics and rubbers in your plumbing or kitchen appliances, giving it a bitter, metallic, or disinfectant like taste. Even though this is not harmful, we agree it does not taste very nice.

-Metallic Taste: The water has a high concentration of iron.

-Tart Taste: When the water coming from your tap has a tart aftertaste, this may be due to high concentrations of organic matter known as tannins. Indicators of tannins include a yellowish colour and an earthy odour. Tannins are most common in well water.
